Zee5’s upcoming historical drama, Taj-Divided by Blood, offers a contemporary spin on the Mughal era, with Naseeruddin Shah portraying Akbar, who is on the lookout for a worthy heir to continue his dynasty amidst a backdrop of sex and scandal. The series also stars Shubham Kumar Mehra, Taha Shah, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aashim Gulati, and Dharmendra, and is set to premiere on March 3.

In the trailer of Taj Divided by Blood, Akbar makes it clear that the throne will not automatically be passed down to his eldest son. Instead, he assures his three sons that merit will be a key factor in selecting a successor. The three princes have vastly different personalities: while Prince Murad (Taha Shah) believes he is entitled to the throne, Prince Salim (Aashim Gulati) is more interested in the arts and the lavish lifestyle that comes with being royalty. In contrast to common perceptions, Prince Daniyal (Shubham Kumar Mehra) is not depicted as having a pure heart or lacking greed.
As per the plot of Taj Divided by Blood, Akbar’s advisor warns him of the rivalry brewing between his sons. The introduction of Anarkali, played by Aditi Rao Hydari, adds another layer of complexity to the already intense succession struggle. Hence, Akbar is made aware of his sons’ conflict by his counselor, while Anarkali’s entry further disrupts the battle for the throne.
